Strain Rate Effects in Tungsten

Abstract

The yield strength of annealed tungsten was found to have a strain rate exponent 12 times as great as that of low carbon steel. The effects of temperature and strain rate could be correlated through the Zener-Hollomon parameter with a heat of activation as-sociated with yielding of 32,000 cai per g-atom. This heat of activation is independent of strain although both the temperature and strain rate dependence of the yield strength vary with strain.
