Zusammenfassung

Büchners gründliche Descartes-Studien zeigen, daß die solipsistische Ausgangsposition der frührationalistischen Philosophie erst dann existentiell bedrohlich wird, wenn deren Zielsetzung (sichere Begründung der Wissenschaft und der Metaphysik, Aufweis der logischen Struktur der Vernunft) nicht mehr annehmbar erscheint. Dennoch bleibt Büchners Verhältnis zu dieser philosophischen Tradition ambivalent.

Abstract

Büchner’s thorough studies of Descartes show that the solipsistic starting point of the philosophy of early Rationalism only assumes an existentially threatening character when its aims (reliable foundation of science and metaphysics, analysis of the logical structure of reason) no longer seem acceptable. Büchner’s relation to this philosophical tradition remains, however, ambivalent.
