Abstract
Duplex stainless steels were prepared in the laboratory with volume fractions of ferrite phases from 21 to 80%. Cyclic potentiodynamic polarization and a.c. impedance spectroscopy were used to study the electrochemical characteristics in Hank’s solution. U-bend stress corrosion, crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion tests were also conducted to evaluate their resistances to localized corrosion. All the data obtained were compared with those of type 316L stainless steel which was widely adopted as an orthopaedic implant alloy in the human body.
