Nur bei einem Drittel der Betroffenen wird Syphilis bereits im Primärstadium diagnostiziert, sodass die Krankheit oft schon fortgeschritten ist. Im Spätstadium erfordern dann die Behandlung einer Neurosyphilis und HIV/Syphilis-Koinfizierte besonderes Augenmerk.
