Summary

More recent research into the causes of asthma, hay fever, rhinoconjunctivitis and atopic dermatitis increasingly shows that these allergic diseases differ considerably in terms of their course, prognosis and pathomechanism. Furthermore, it is evident that a more subtle and sophisticated approach is needed to clarify the question as to the influence of genetic or environmental factors.
