He earned his BS and MS degrees in ceramic engineering from the Univ. of Illinois in 1956 and 1957, respectively. He then joined US Steel. Mr. Kappmeyer received the 1962 Professional Achievement in Ceramic Engineering (PACE) Award, presented by the National Inst, of Ceramic Engineers. He received an M.S. in 1969 in management sciences from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, where he held a Sloan Foundation Fellowship.

C. K. Russell has been employed at the Research Laboratory of U. S. Steel Corp. Monroeville, Pa., since 1964, where he is now supervisor of the high-temperature chemistry section. He received B.S. (1951), MS (1953), and PhD (1964) degrees in Ceramic Engineering from the Univ. of Illinois. He was previously employed as a Group Leader in Research at the A. P. Green Refractories Co., from 1956 to 1961. Dr. Russell is the author of numerous papers and presentations in the fields of refractories, glass, porcelain enamels, and steel processing, and is the holder of four U. S. Patents

D. H. Hubble is section supervisor at US Steel’s Research Laboratory. Mr. Hubble attended Roanoke College, and then transferred to Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he received B.S. degrees in ceramic engineering and metallurgical engineering in 1957. His work has been largely concentrated on the development of new and improved basic refractories for the BOP and Q-BOP and in refractories for new pilot and commercial facilities.
