Following receipt of his PhD in metallurgical engineering (Ohio State, 1956), he worked for two years for the Pigments Dept. of E. I. duPont de Nemours & Co. in Wilmington, Del., before entering teaching. A member of several professional and technical societies in engineering and education, he is a registered professional metallurgical engineer, an accredited corrosion specialist, and a consultant to industry and the legal profession.
