Abstract

Melting in the vacuum induction furnace permits the adjustment and control of two thermodynamic parameters: pressure and temperature.

Rene SchlatterTMS is manager of process research at Latrobe Steel Company. He was educated in Switzerland and received his degree in chemistry in 1954. In 1962 he came to the U.S. and was a research metallurgist with Special Metals Corp. until 1965, when he joined Latrobe as senior research metallurgist. He became manager of process research in 1969.
