A New Process for Continuously Casting Aluminum Killed Steel

Abstract

A system which permits the casting of aluminum killed steels through billet casting machines has been developed. Essentially, the system comprises an inert gas purged nozzle in conjunction with tundish shrouds and mold powders. Development work on a pilot plant scale, and in trial heats using both two strand and six strand casting machines are described.
