Abstract

This article presents the results of research on the elasticity and durability of chemically bonded molding sands, most notably those containing hydrophilic binders. This research concerns the top surface layer of a sand mold. The observed loss of durability in the top surface layer can be caused by excessive dehydration of the binder. The pace and range of the changes depends on the air temperature and moisture, grain size, and amount of binder. The developed ultrasound method allows for observation of the kinetics of these changes with the results having practical applications.
