Abstract
An erbium-doped dispersion-compensating optical fiber (EDDCF) has been experimentally fabricated using a Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVDj process for the optimum operation at 5.0 km and characterization has been carried out regarding gain, attenuation and noise figure. It is optimized for both the gain as well as the negative dispersion. We are the first to report the experimental realization of the EDDCF.
