Abstract
We have carried out the ray analysis of a linearly tapered parabolic optical fiber with a flat continuation in refractive index profile. The ray equation is solved for a taper with small slope under weakly guiding approximation. Analytical solutions for ray paths of meridional rays are obtained. Conditions for bound meridional rays are derived. The plots of meridional rays for different distortions in the index profile of the taper are presented.
