Tool zur Verwaltung von Literaturdokumenten im PDF-Format an Beispielen aus der Arbeitsmedizin

Zusammenfassung

In einem immer komplexer werdenden Arbeitsumfeld ist besonders der Arbeitsmediziner auf einen schnellen und gezielten Zugriff auf die relevanten Informationen und Veröffentlichungen in seinem Arbeitsgebiet angewiesen. Diese Informationen zieht er aus Hand- und Lehrbüchern, Zeitschriften, Periodika, Bibliographien und Datenbanken. Mit der zunehmenden EDV-Verbreitung liegen diese Informationen wie auch Verordnungen, Standards, Richtlinien und Informationsschriften oder Grundsatzurteile oft als Dateien im „portable document format“ (pdf-Format) vor. Diese Dokumente werden über Lese-Programme dargestellt. Die Verwaltung einer großen Anzahl von pdf-Dateien ist bisher nicht gelöst. Mit dem hier vorgestellten Tool lassen sich pdf-Dateien nicht nur systematisch archivieren, sondern auch schnell und einfach suchen und anzeigen. Darüber hinaus wird eine Suchfunktion innerhalb der Dokumente zur Verfügung gestellt.

Durch Erstellung eines Sammelarchivs aus vorhandenen Datensätzen an Beispielen aus dem Institut und der Poliklinik für Arbeits- und Sozialmedizin steht ein Werkzeug zur Verfügung, welches das schnelle Auffinden spezieller Informationen insbesondere die deutschsprachige und bisher international online nicht zugänglichen Literatur in Originalbeiträgen ermöglicht. Die Datenbank ermöglicht die schnelle Suche und Darstellung von pdf-Dokumenten sowie von Stichworten innerhalb der pdf-Dateien. Ein weiterer entscheidender Vorteil des vorgestellten Tools ist die Möglichkeit eine persönliche Dokumentensammlung für das eigene Arbeitsgebiet aufzubauen. Die aufgenommenen Original-Arbeiten werden in die Datenbank eingelesen und darin gespeichert.

Modern occupational medicine encompasses a variety of not only medical but also technical knowledge. Sources of information are for example textbooks, bibliography, articles and data bases. Using electronic data and internet sources, many files assemble. Most of them are saved in the “portable document format” (pdf), which can be looked at by reader programs. An unsolved problem was the handling of a great number of pdf-files, because searching for them at the working station takes mostly a long time. Therefore we created a tool that enables the user to gather the files and to assign the bibliographic data as well as key words and further information. Thus you can search for a saved document e.g. by the authors name, key words or any word in title and abstract. In addition it is possible to search out terms inside the pdf-document to get at once the text passage you look for. Another advantage of our tool is that you can build your own archive, designed exactly for your own needs. Since the pdf-file is read into the database and saved promptly. You need not put it in separate archives or, nor must you organize the original data at a special place on your computer to enable the right access. Thus it will become much easier and more comfortable to work with great amounts of information and save a lot of time while looking for data, at the office, during a meeting or conference, or in private.
