Is there a need for pharmacoeconomic evaluation?

Abstract

I n an era of increasing resource consciousness on the part of healthcare authorities, 1 the answer is a resounding ‘Yes’. While pharmacoeconomic evaluation is still an evolving science, the economic data produced are becoming increasingly relevant for all players in the healthcare arena. The growing need for such evaluations was a major topic of discussion at a recent IIR conference entitled ‘Cost-effective economic evaluations’ [London, UK; November 1994].
