Abstract
N egative attitudes towards mental illness can add to the suffering of patients with disorders such as depression and schizophrenia. Recent studies (including pharmacoeconomic analyses) discussed at the Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum Congress [ Washington DC, US; July 1994 ] have provided concrete data that are helping to remove the stigma associated with these disorders.
