Abstract

I n this era of healthcare cost containment and outcomes assessment, measuring and obtaining the greatest value possible from healthcare services and products is paramount. While there is debate about the value of certain medical procedures, pharmaceuticals are typically viewed as providing a definite health benefit. This view is due, in part, to the requirement that pharmaceuticals meet regulatory standards for efficacy and safety prior to marketing.
