Abstract

W omen’s health and disease management are two of the most talked about and high-profile movements in healthcare today. Women account for two-thirds of every dollar spent in healthcare and 75% of all healthcare decisions made, yet women’s health is still considered an untapped market. Furthermore, although women’s health and disease management are widely discussed, they are rarely spoken about in the same sentence, said Dr Stan Bernard from AT Kearney Inc. at the Disease Management Congress*[ New York, US; June 1997 ]. He suggested that the reason for this was a perceived lack of commonality or overlap between the two movements. At the meeting, Dr Bernard and other presenters showed that there are in fact numerous parallels between women’s health and disease management, which can be combined to provide high-quality care for women.
