Abstract

T he introduction of a managed-care programme in Maryland, US, led to reduced rates of avoidable * hospitalisations for paediatric Medicaid patients who were actively involved in the programme. This finding comes from an analysis of paediatric insurance-claim data collected from 3 years prior to, and 2 years after, the introduction of the fee-for-service managed-care programme in Maryland. The results of this analysis were presented at the 1997 Annual Meeting of the Paediatric Academic Societies [ Washington, US; May 1997 ].
