Abstract
Recently, the demand of dissimilar metal joint has been increasing in industry, especially in automobile industry. Therefore, research and development of dissimilar metal joint is accelerated. The laser roll welding has been developed by M. Kutsuna and M. Rathod, and joining of dissimilar metals, such as Fe-Al, Fe-Cu has been studied. It is well known that joining of steel and titanium is difficult, and titanium has superior corrosion resistance. In dissimilar joint of steel and titanium, the brittle intermetallic compound is generated. In the present work, that control and the effect of process parameters on the formation of intermetallic compound and TiFe compound — titanium mixed phase (= eutectics) at the interlayer was investigated to get a sound joint.
