Phenobarbital Enhances Sister Chromatid Exchanges In Vivo

Summary

In cultured lymphocytes from 12 epileptic children on long term medication with phénobarbital, an increased sister chromatid exchange frequency was found, the average chromatid exchange rate exceeding that of a normal control group by 42%.

This consistent increase in sister chromatid exchanges indicates a possible DNA-dam-aging effect of phenobarbital.
