Interlaminar stresses of a laminated composite bar under bending (I)

Abstract

A laminated composite bar of rectangular cross section consists of a middle portion of one material and upper and lower identical cover plates of another material. Compressive and tensile forces each equal to P are uniformly distributed at the ends of the upper and lower cover plates (Fig. 1). They form couples at both ends of the bar. Our aim is to find the interlaminar stresses or how the forces are transmitted through the glued surfaces.
