Abstract
The BMW Group was the first vehicle manufacturer to supply start—stop systems as a constituent element of standard equipment. From 2007, start—stop systems were deployed exclusively in vehicles with manual gearshift and four—cylinder engines. Significant technical adjustments were necessary in order to be able to achieve this combination with eight—speed automatic transmission and dual—clutch transmission. The development engineers based in Munich describe the control mechanisms and new system components they have developed and modified.
