Influence of vehicle electrical energy on fuel consumption

Abstract

The driver expects a vehicle to provide optimum performance, safety and maximum comfort. These demands are set against the backdrop of higher fuel costs that have made consumers far more aware of consumption in everyday driving practice. Added to this are demands on the part of the legislator in the form of CO2 ceilings for vehicle fleets. This calls for approaches to optimize CO2 emission while maintaining or improving benefits to the consumer. This IAV paper focusses on the not insignificant role of the generation and conversion of electrical energy in this context.
