Abstract

Nowadays the timing belt or synchronous belt drives the camshaft in a multitude of internal combustion engines. Schaeffler KG, with its business unit INA Motorsysteme, focuses primarily on improvements of the belt pulley. The foundation of the developments is in a first step a principal modification of the geometric round shape into an out-ofround, for example oval, form-optimized belt pulley INA Dura Drive, abbreviated ID2. The principle of this development was successfully carried over to camshaft chain drives in a second step. The combinational possibilities with variable cam timers are regarded in the same way. In this paper the company presents the ongoing developments based on performed simulations and tests.
