Abstract
With the introduction of the new Opel Zafira in Engine summer of this year, the newly developed 1.8 I spark ignition engine of the mid-size engine family will be offered for the first time. The engine is the second representative in the new generation 3 products presented in 2003. It demonstrates excellent performance characteristics in connection with clearly reduced fuel consumption. By integrating two variable cam phasers and a new intake and exhaust system, the performance was increased to 103 kW and the torque to 175 Nm. The fuel consumption in the MVEG cycle was reduced by 4 %.
