Abstract

The majority of fuel rails supplied for common rail diesel injection systems to date consist of a forged and machined piece of steel. About two years ago, Poppe & Potthoff GmbH & Co. successfully entered the market with an alternative based on a cold-drawn seamless steel tube. The metallurgical possibilities of seamless precision steel tubes offer special advantages with respect to working pressures and potential for further development.
