Abstract

The demands on engines and oils have considerably increased over the last few years. More stringent emission limits will cause new problems for engine developers and the additive and oil industry in future. MAN has developed an in-house test and established it together with APL Landau and I.S.P. Salzbergen. This article describes the development, procedure and evaluation of the test as well as the determination of tolerances and test criteria. It also presents an objective statistical procedure for setting the limit values.
