Abstract

The four-cylinder gasoline engine from Mercedes-Benz internally designated the “M 271” has been a strong performer in the C-Class, E-Class, and SLK-Class, to name a few models. The new “M 271 evo” engine described here is representative of the ongoing efforts of Mercedes-Benz to successfully implement its long-term downsizing concept for series production passenger cars. The focus of the new engine was to integrate a number of measures, all of which were designed to improved fuel economy. At the same time, engine and torque performance are increased.
