Abstract

The NOx and particulate matter emission limits at Euro 5 and US 2007 (abbreviated as US’ 07) for commercial vehicle engines are a major challenge for engine and exhaust gas aftertreatment technology. US’ 07 is already in effect; Euro 5 will come into force in October 2008. Even more demanding technological challenges are to come: from January 2010, US 2010 (US’ 10) limits will apply in the USA, and the introduction of Euro 6 is expected in 2013. However, the commercial vehicle engines, which will have to meet those limits are being designed now. Behr’s low temperature exhaust gas recirculation provides an appropriate technology for these engines.
