Abstract
A vehicle’s fuel consumption is defined by its driveline and driving resistances as well as the engine efficiency. A vehicle efficiency measure as equivalent to the engine efficiency has yet to be adopted by manufacturers. This measure is now introduced by authors from the Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS). As it is not suggestive to discuss vehicle efficiency without mentioning braking energy recuperation, this will also be integrated into the investigation.
