Abstract
The design of engine and transmission-mounted brackets has a decisive influence on the dynamic behavior and therefore on the durability of an exhaust system. Since the effect of a change of geometry on the dynamic behavior of the system is hard to predict, a lot of variants had to be analyzed so far. By using new simulation tools, the modeling of the variants is greatly accelerated at ArvinMeritor on the one hand, whilst on the other hand, the automatic structural optimization, based on dynamic excitation, permits both time and cost savings in the development process.
