Abstract
In recent years, competition in the automotive industry has become dramatically more intense. Following the standardisation and optimisation of production as far as possible in recent years, greater potential has arisen for improvements in efficiency, especially in indirectly related areas such as maintenance. Implemented concepts such as “Total Asset Care” and “Total Cost of Ownership” provide the basis for the large-scale standardisation of maintenance and defined service specifications. The Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), Dortmund, is developing such concepts.
