Abstract

The reinforcement of the car body by means of plastic inserts can only achieve its full potential when this is considered at an early stage in the design process. In order to design such plastic inserts, it is absolutely necessary to look at the overall system consisting of metal, plastic and structural foam. Therefore in addition to the materials BASF has developed numerical analysis methods for the evaluation of crash behaviour of such components.
