Abstract
For some time now, there has been a move away from traditional metal construction in aircraft engineering. Increasing use is being made of fibre-plastic composites (FPC), primarily carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP). It is reported that more than 50% of the Airbus A350 already consists of CFRP [1]. In such designs, sandwich construction plays a key role. This report describes its general functional principle and the job of the components used and focuses in particular on the core material.
