abstract

The fabrication of NbTi material for superconducting applications requires a well-established quality assurance system. The development of defects in the rods and billets can be reduced by closely monitoring important process variables, such as the raw materials, melting procedure, heat treatment and surface condition. Imperfections can be pinpointed by ultrasonic inspection, eddy current methods and hardness testing.
