An agrégé in philosophy, he was the assistant of Professor Jean Château at Bordeaux. On becoming a professor himself, he directed the psychology laboratory for many years and built up a small team that worked on school learning and its role in child development; several studies and publications on starting to write and, more specifically, entering the culture of the written word. Vygotsky’s socio-historical theory provides the frame of reference for his work. Now an emeritus professor, he devotes his time to his research. Contributed toOutils et signes (1997) with C. Moro and B. Schneuwly.
