Resumen
El propósito de este estudio es evaluar y ajustar los datos recopilados hasta ahora, sobre nacimientos y muertes de todas las áreas de registro obligatorio en Ghana. El análiss muestra que hay un registro incompleto de nacimientos y que la subenumeración afecta tanto a hombres como a mujeres, en una proporción de 75 y 72 porciento respectivamente.
En lo que se refiere a la mortalidad infantil y a muertes en general, sólo fué posible demostrar, par un análisis de la pro porción de sexos que existen en el Plan, una serie de errores inherentes. Se sugiere algunas de las formas en que pueden rectificarse los errores que ocurren actualmente.
La investigación continua sobre la calidad de los datos y una apreciación crítica del Plan existente revelarán aquellos defectos que afectan más seriamente los esfuerzos que se hace para obtener una información válida.
Summary
The purpose of this study is to evaluate and adjust the data so far collected on births and deaths from all the compulsory registration areas in Ghana. The analysis shows that there is incomplete registration of births and that the extent of underenumeration affects both males and females by a proportion of 75 percent and 72 percent, respectively.
For infant mortality and deaths in general, it was possible only to demonstrate, by an analysis of the sex ratios, that errors are inherent in the plan. Suggestions are made as to how some of the errors which now occur can be rectified.
Continued research into the quality of the data and a critical appraisal of the existing plan will reveal those defects that most seriously cripple efforts to obtain positive information.
