2D Ising model for hydrated protein surfaces

Summary

To understand the nature of the glassy dielectric relaxation recently observed in hydrated protein powders, we model the protein surface as a 2D Ising square net, and identify frustration at the molecular level in the competing interactions of migrating protons with bound water.
