Gans is currently on leave as associate professor of Urban Studies, Institute for Urban Studies, University of Pennsylvania, and is now at work completing a book about a new suburban community. The above article stems from his study of, and residence in, a low income area torn down under the federal slum clearance program. The study is fully described in his book,The Urba Villagers.
