Thomas M. Martinez is an instructor of sociology at the University of Santa Clara. He has written on bureaucratization and professionalization among probation workers and is conducting studies of probation officers in the United Kingdom and of public-employee strikes in the United States. He is also gathering more information for a book on the impact of private employment agencies on American society.
