M. Drewster Smith is professor of psychology and director of the Institute of Human Development at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a former vice-president of the Joint Commission on Mental Illness and Health and editor of theJournal of Abnormal and Social Psychology. A task force member of the current Joint Commission on Mental Health of Children, he has recently done studies of teenage prejudice, Peace Corps volunteers, and student activism.
