Abstract

The proposed extension to Folk's (1959, 1962) textural classification of carbonate rocks includes the following modifications:

  1. 1.)

introduction of oncoids (Flügel, 1978, 1982) and extraclasts as two new groups of allochems.

  2. 2.)

adjustment of the amount of individual components from 25% (Folk, 1959, 1962) to 20% (or 40% in the case of fossils/peloids) in order to integrate them into the rock name.

  3. 3.)

incorporation of all the components into the rock name as long as they comprise >=20% (or >=40% in the case of fossils/peloids) of the rock.
