Abstract
Fear of bodily injury is the most common psychological reaction of children in hospital, especially if they are to undergo surgery. The results of this study underline the fact that when children who are going to have surgery are given psychological preparation, this preparation is of benefit not only to the children but to the whole surgical process. The study confirms significant statistical reduction of fear in the group under treatment (experimental), because of the effectiveness of psychoprophylactic preparation and the use of films showing the surgical procedure that will be used. In the control group, the parameters of fear remained high. Surgical psychoprophylaxis is the most effective method of lessing fear, facilitating the progress of the operation and shortening the post-operation period.
