Abstract

Waveforms of the first negative current pulses in N2+SF6 mixtures was investigated with nanosecond time resolution in a pressure 6,6 kPa as a function of applied gap voltage. Based on the observed changes of the pulse shape we have elucidated the role of secondary emission processes during the initial stages of the discharge development. Effects of changing the cathode photoemission coefficient were tested using copper cathodes, CuI coated cathodes and graphite coated cathodes. The experimental results obtained will be discussed in context with existing computer simulation models.
