Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Summary
Background
In 1966 Kearns and Hollenhorst introduced the term “bull’s eye maculopathy” to describe a chloroquine retinopathy. Since then bull’s eye lesions were reported in several different retinal dystrophies, showing that the clinical appearance of the fundus cannot be correlated to the nature and stage of the underlying disease. We report of a young patient with reversed unilateral bull’s eye maculopathy after an eye injury.
Methods
A 8 year old boy after a blunt trauma to his left eye showed a decrease of vision as well as a bull’s eye maculopathy unilaterally. On the next day the fundus-examination of that eye revealed no abnormalities. Due to this case we have done a retrospective analysis of the literature.
Conclusion
Trauma is well known to cause peripheral and posterior RPE changes but has not been shown to cause a self- and time-limited unilateral bull’s eye maculopathy. Therefore, trauma should be taken into consideration in the differentialdiagnosis of bull’s eye maculopathy.
