ODAS Operations-Datenbank der Augenabteilung Salzburg

Zusammenfassung

Nachdem wir im letzten Jahr mit der Einführung von SADAS — der Spezial-Ambulanz-Datenbank der Augenabteilung Salzburg — erste, positive Erfahrungen mit selbstadaptierter Software sammeln konnten, wurde ein weiteres Programm mit dem bewährten Datenbanksystem MS Access 2.0® erstellt.

ODAS — die „Operations-Datenbank der Augenabteilung Salzburg“ erfüllt mehrere Aufgaben: Die Erstellung des Operationsberichtes, der OP-Pflegedokumentation, die Führung des Operationsbuches, die Implantatverwaltung sowie die geforderte Qualitätskontrolle.

Durch die große Flexibilität der Basissoftware MS Access 2.0® war es möglich, eine auf die Bedürfnisse von Operateur und OP-Schwestern gleicher Art maßgeschneiderte Datenbank zu errichten. Dazu war es nicht notwendig, eine Programmiersprache zu erlernen. Bei der Programmierung wurde wieder besonderer Wert auf die Bedienerfreundlichkeit gelegt.

Operationsbericht und OP-Pflegedokumentation werden auf Knopfdruck generiert. Durch die Verwendung der bereits vorhandenen Basissoftware und der Eigenprogrammierung fielen keine weiteren Kosten für die Software an.

Summary

Following the successful introduction of the SADAS-program that is used in the seven subspeciality ambulatory services of the Salzburg Eye Department for patient file management and clinical data documentation, the commercially available file-management program MS Access 2.0™ was used to establish a userfriendly and efficient databank for the operating and laser treatment rooms.

“ODAS” (the “Operations-Datenbank der Augenabteilung Salzburg”) has several functions: the generation of the surgical report — as requested by law from the surgeon — and the detailed “OR-nurses report” that has to be written by members of the health-care staff (from the moment the patient enters the OR until he is brought back to the ward), the automatic production of the operating theatre report book, the administration of the diverse implants used (such as IOLs, sutures, silicone bands,…), and the undispensible quality control as far as surgical complications are concerned.

As the basic software (MS Access 2.0™) used for this user-specific program is highly flexible, almost all requirements of the OR staff could be incorporated into ODAS. Ease of use for untrained co-workers, versability for different surgical situations and comparatively low costs (as no separate programming steps are required) proved to be the major benefits for this type of software-solution for a medium size (1995: around 3600 surgical interventions) operating theatre.
