Summary
Prior to cataract surgery the retinal visual acuity was determined in 104 patients with the Heine Retinometer Lambda 100 and the Interzeag IRAS 760. The values were compared with the postoperative visual acuity. In patients with moderate cataracts the predicted visual acuity was accurate in 48% (Interzeag) and in 65% (Heine) of the eyes. In the case of senile macular degeneration a good correlation was observed, whereas false positive results did occur in patients with glaucomatous damage.
