Summary

Rhinosporidiosis is a very rare disease in Europe, which provides polypoid masses of the mucous membranes of the nasal pharynx. It is called oculosporidiosis if only the eyes are infected.

We report on a patient in whom the diagnosis of oculosporidiosis could be found histologically not until several excisions and biopsies and frustrane therapeutic trials with antibiotics.

Typically round capsules (sporangia) are found filled with a large number of spores. These capsules rupture and set the spores free to the tissue which answers with a inflammatory reaction.

Remarkable was the painlessness in relation to the severe status and the strong tendency towards bleeding when touching the lesions.
