Abstract
The liberalization of the electricity market resulted in a pressure on costs. Programs to reduce costs are performed in the sector of personnel and equipment today. In the personnel sector cost reduction is possible in short term, whereas in the equipment domain long-term and enduring potentials of cost reduction can be used. The today status of system reliability must not be affected significantly. The aim is to reduce costs of investment and maintenance. New computer-based methods for system state estimation and maintenance allow significant cost reductions in future.
