Het aantal ziekenhuisopnamen vanwege een longontsteking of acute bronchitis is in de periode 1981-2005 verdubbeld. Bij longontsteking gold de toename vooral ouderen (65-plus), terwijl de toename voor acute bronchitis vooral nuljarigen betreft.
